In session, we identify not only the triggers of your stress reaction, but ways to cope with it such that you feel more in control of your life. In our therapy together, we help you build tools to effectively manage your stress so that you can also enjoy your life outside of the inevitable triggers.
Truth is, even joyful events, like embarking on a new career, remodeling a home, planning a wedding or starting a family, brings us stress.
Of course we also have to navigate the consequences of negative events. Unemployment, relationship breakups, divorce or custody issues, or loneliness are also major stressors for many. Being better able to set boundaries and limits around how we allow those events to affect us negatively, is something stress counseling can help with.

Common Questions About Therapy For Stress
-
While expenses for any psychological or counseling services for stress can add up, consider also the potential financial, psychological and medical losses for stress related illnesses. Many GI related diagnoses, relationship problems or breakdowns, and associated fees may equal or top the financial investment in therapy. Put in other words, maybe you can’t afford not to.
You also risk paying a high price in so many other important parts of your life. This may include your ability to enjoy and relax, or emotional closeness and intimacy with others. If you are internally consumed by stressful thoughts, it is hard to be fully present in your relationships.
Also, if cost is a primary concern, be aware that many insurance plans will reimburse you for out of network providers seeing that stress related problems is a billable diagnosis.

No, counseling for stress does not have to take months and months. I have helped many individuals establish a much better way of structuring their lives such that stress levels feel much more manageable in a few weeks or months, with occasional follow up sessions as needed.
While length of treatment varies from individual to individual, a couple of intake sessions should give us an idea. Most issues addressed in therapy depend on some level of individual issues at the beginning of therapy which is why it is difficult to give an exact timeframe. But stress counseling should not take more than a few months, given our mutual investment in our defined goal and treatment plan. What you do outside of sessions is of course paramount.

Therapy for stress is similar to therapy for other issues in that it is important to have an initial intake session or two. This helps us better identify your specific issue and establish a mutually agreed upon goal. This should help with a blueprint for a treatment plan which can be modified as needed, depending on your progress.
I have helped thousands of people better manage their stress levels and participate more fully in other areas of their lives. These include areas which have often suffered, like relationships for example. I have helped people feel more in control in the areas where they experience the most stress. It is all about how you manage yourself and your life.
When we meet together you will get a feel for how I work and decide if this is a good fit for you. I am very active in therapy and work collaboratively with you. I have over 30000 hours of therapy behind me, and I have also lived through many life phases which I know inevitably brings us stress.
