Rates & FAQs

  • I work with a variety of demographics, but mostly high functioning, professional adults over 20.  I have extensive experience working with graduate students from my 20+ years as a community provider for Stanford Student Health.

  • Over 27 years of practice, I have trained in a variety of approaches.  I do not subscribe to one single therapy method, but rather modify my approach based on your individual needs. I am very active in therapy so that I can better understand what will be helpful to you.  Goals are important and we do random checks together to make sure that we are moving toward our mutually agreed upon goals for you.

  • This depends on a few factors such as your goals and any personal or circumstantial complexities. I always aim for a clear sense of what we need to work through in the first 1-3 sessions, and then we can determine how long we think this will take.  Many experience some relief and clarity after a few sessions. In general, I think 3-6 months is a good guideline, but again this is very individual seeing everyone comes with a different set of challenges.

  • I work with both.  In couples therapy I prefer a 90 minute intake seeing it can get very complex and it is hard to get a good sense of direction in just an hour.  I also very often do one individual session with each partner in the couple.  This is to help me better understand individual factors such as projections etc., that can get in the way of effective couples therapy.

  • My sessions are 53-55 minutes or 90 minutes depending on what we have decided upon.  At times, I may recommend a few 90 minute sessions to work through difficult material, and then we can move back to 55 minutes.

  • This also depends on what you are looking for and complexities around the issue you are seeking help for.  Usually it is good to start with weekly sessions at least for the first month and then we can often move to less frequent sessions.  Over the years, I have had many clients who move to once every month or less, or who contact me as needed.

  • I charge $350 for 55 minutes or $525 for 90 minutes. I am not contracted with insurance but I can submit claims on your behalf for reimbursement to you.  Contact me for more information if you have any questions.

  • I am an out of network provider but if you have such benefits, I can bill your insurance on your behalf for reimbursement to you directly.

  • I am currently working almost exclusively online via telehealth although I have office space in Palo Alto where I practiced for over 20 years, and Del Mar.  At times I arrange for “block therapy”, meaning a few consecutive longer sessions in person if needed.

  • Send me a text to 650.814.1454 or fill out my contact form.  We can schedule a complimentary brief 15-20 minute consultation where you can ask questions and get a sense for my style, or if you prefer we can schedule a full intake session. Please note that voicemail is not ideal seeing it sometimes gets lost or doesn’t record properly.
